We just rebuilt our inboard and the boat was running GREAT for 2 days. Then,at the end of the 2nd day, the outdrive started making a clunk about once every 60 seconds. We were driving at low rpm's when this started happening. Before my husband did the rebuild, it was doing this clunk at faster speeds about once every 30 minutes. Our boat is an 89 Bayliner Capri. Can anyone lead us in the right direction.

Thanks for your time and help.

Kim Dumas

Have you ruled out the electronic shift assist kicking in for a second when it shouldn't be? Maybe the clunk sound in my head is different from what you are describing? Does it sound like the engine "cuts out" for a second?

Kim, I also have a clunk in my lower unit and it was diagnosed as the clutch dog going bad
