Suggest a prop please. Just purchased the boat and it has a beat up prop 13-3/4x15". The boat is running good but the spedo and tach don't work so WOT is ???rpm right now seems to be scooting along pretty good with 2 aboard and engine doesn't sound like it straining (just when picking up speed and getting to plane) planes okay top speed seems good. I'm open to 3 or 4 blade. Top end isn't my biggest goal want a good hole shot and quality mid range performance.

Bayliner Capri 2.3 17ft bow rider:
Manufacturer: OMC
Model: "2.3L Cobra"
Year: 1988
Horsepower: 128.0
Cylinders: 4
Type: 4 stroke
Gear Ratio: 2.00:1
Min WOT RPM: 5200
Max WOT RPM: 5600
Spline Count: 13
Drive Type: Stern drive

Any help especially from other Bayliner Capri drivers would be welcome! Thanks!

I've got the same boat a year newer, an '89 1750, and can tell you a Turning point hustler 13.5 x 17 will get you 43 MPH GPS and 5400 RPM. A 13.5 x 19 will go 43 GPS and 5200 RPM but with slower hole shot and acceleration to max speed.(with a light load) I plan on getting a 15p 'hustler for when I want to haul more people or tow a skier. Can also say with the 17p prop it cruises nicely at 3500 rpm and about 23MPH, and doesnt use alot of gas.

Your pretty lucky to have someone with the exact setup.
You should get your tach and speedo working.Or borrow a gps for speed.
Its important for the health of you motor that it can operate within its rpm range.

Thanks everyone! We are lucky to have any info on these old boats! I have an update for you all.

So a couple weeks ago we went up to Lake Powell, AZ with the boat. I have repaired the tachometer and downloaded a GPS app on the droid that shows MPH etc. I purchased a rebuilt 13 3/4" x 15" prop on the cheap for the trip.

at 3500RPM indicated we got 23mph on the GPS with 750lbs of people and gear at 3600+ft above sea level.
at 4500ROM WOT (couldn't get no more!) GPS said 28mph.

after 3 days of boating we broke down. The lifter on #4 cyl let go because the cam lobe is flat and cut into the rocker arm causing the lifter to fail. I've replaced the parts, oil & filter to get it running but will need a new cam or rebuilt head to fix once and for all. I'm probably going to install a Ranger roller cam head and be done with the flat tappet system.
