OMC cables and older Evinrude control box?

I recently traded my 96 Evinrude 9.9 for a 77 Johnson 35. The shift and throttle cable ends are completely different. I'm pretty sure I have to switch out the control box for the one that came with the 35 due to the seperate controls for shifting and throttle. The original (OMC) that came with the 9.9 has a single lever for both. My question is this, is there a conversion kit that will allow me to reuse my existing cables and just switch out the ends? Also, are the connections in the control boxes the same, or would I have to switch them out also?
I appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Fishy

Re: OMC cables and older Evinrude control box?

you need a pre 1979, control, and cables.
