Okay, I've done my homework and found that OMC Adhesive M is the same thing as 3M's #0847 sealer, Marprox Sealer 1000, and Boat Armor Sealer 1000. The problem is that I can't find ANY of them - not even on the internet!

Somewhere in my search, I came across Permatex Gasket Dressing & Flange Sealant #25249, which was alleged to have "replaced" OMC Adhesive M. I think I can find this stuff, because many auto parts stores sell Permatex products.

So my question is this: Have any of you heard of this Permatex stuff and is it at least as good as the OMC Adhesive M? Does anyone know of a place that sells any of these products (Adhesive M, Marprox, etc) online?

Re: OMC Adhesive M

Well, I removed the gearcase on a 1998 Evinrude 9.9 4-stroke to search for a missing shift rod grommet on the lower motor cover that I thought had fallen into the gearcase housing. Not finding it, I am now just replacing the gearcase without the grommet. I was going to use this sealant on the water pump impeller housing o-ring and on the water tube grommet.

Re: OMC Adhesive M

All you need is a little grease in the water tube grommet to make the water tube slide in easier. No sealant really neccessary

If your talking about the oring on the impeller housing, same here. If this oring is really flatened out, you may condiser replaceing it. Cheap part...PN 319085. Right around 83 cent.

While we're in there.....when was the last time ya' replaced the impeller?

Re: OMC Adhesive M

The original owner replaced it about a year before I bought it. I don't think they used it much after that, but I don't think they ran fresh water through it on those occasions when they did use it in the bay. I had about a year's worth of use on it.

The o-ring does look flat so I will take your advice and get a new one. Thanks!

Ishopmarine.com sells it. Just click on the Index for Genuine Evinrude/Johnson in the middle of the page. Scroll down, it's in the left hand column of the list.

Since you have the leg off, might as well rebuild the water pump anyway. Cheap insurance.
