omc 5.7 starting problems.. easy fix???

after my engine sitting for 1-1/2 years. i decided to go boating this year.. i checked over everything and put in some more fuel enhancer. the tank is 1/2 full. i have not topped it off as of yet. after turning the key the engine starts fine. but when the key is released the engine stops. what could be doing this. this happens every time i turn the key. starts., then dies immediatly.. as soon as you release the key. ... you expect it to keep going and be able to let down on the choke. but no dice. any ideas. we are looking on going out on it on memorial weekend. please help.. brian

check to see if you are getting any power to the coil when the key in the "on" position. The coil receives power through the starter while in the "start" position. Could be the ignition switch - could be a connection problem - time to start seeing where you have power and where you don't.
