I have a 1989 Bayliner 2755 with OMC 460 engine. When I do a cold start the oil pressure is great at 2k rpms its at like 65-70psi however, once it warms up at idle (around 1k) is is barely registering (10psi) and at 2k rpms it's at 20psi. It seems to me this oil pressure is way too low. Any thoughts?

Re: OMC 460 Oil Pressure

What oil are you using and how old is it?

I found that non synthetic oil looses its viscosity as it ages and over temp. I had similar issues before I switched to Mobil 1 with regular oil. With synthetic, my viscosity stays more constant over temp and time.

Re: OMC 460 Oil Pressure

I was running 15W40 in mine and it had adequate oil pressure.

If it gets hot the oil pressure will drop considerably with 10W30 etc.....

If you have a LOT of hours on it and oil pressure is low when it's hot, you may have more than normal clearances in the main/rod, and/or cam bearings.....

Re: OMC 460 Oil Pressure

2k psi for a 460 should be 40-60, unless it knocks Id check the guage and sending unit, if those check out and it doesnt knock the bypass in the oil pump might be stuck partialy open.
