Anyone have suggestions for this? I will probably do it in July, but want to have all the parts with me when I start. Suggestions on what to replace, tricks to removing re-installing the drive etc etc etc. I have a Clymers book, but that seems a bit "lite" on the info department. No history on the last time it was done, temp is steady at 170 now, but the muffs slipped off the inlet holes the other day while screwing with the carb. Not sure how long, but temp got to 210. Thanks.

Don't mess around with just the impeller. Buy a complete kit. It comes with the new housing and all the goodies.

It's a good time to inspect the upper and lower units for water intrusion.

To replace the housing and impeller you have to separate the upper from the lower. They can be stubborn if they have not been apart in a while.

LOOK HERE FOR INFO

Re: OMC 400 water pump replacement

Thanks keith, I planned on a whole unit, I just meant the old thought of, "might as well replace it since I'm here" stuff. I know I got some river muck in the screen my first day out, (I have the prop to prove it) : ) and the previous owner had no idea when it was done last. He owned it for a year and a half.

Still no trial on the carb run yet btw. I found a 1/4 inch thick wad of black gasket sealer inside the choke throttle. Hopefully that was my problem. If not I have a GM rebuild kit in the tool box ready for that project........
