OMC 400/800

What is the difference between these two series?<br />My unit is a 1978 cable shift and neither number is referenced on the outdrive tag or in my aftermarket manual.

The 400 is geared to the 4 & 6 cylinder engines ,whlie the 800 is for the v8s.

The 800 has a somewhat larger diameter 'torpedo' housing (the rounded casing in front of the prop) to hold the larger/stronger gears using in the V-6/V-8 models, and I think it takes a different model of prop to accomodate that difference.<br />Tom
