hi guys,

New here, I baught a 20 ft conquest cabin cruiser this season ran fine till i saw oil in the bilge i felt a hole in the oil pan where the oil is leaking out. i was look for the year of the motor but cant find it on it. all i know its an omc engine which i think its a gm block

My question is how do i remove the motor i am very handy do i have to remove the out drive also?

i have a 4.3l marine block its a 1998 would that work in place of the older motor or would i need a newer intake manifold any help will be greatfull.

thanks

Yes, u have to remove the drive. And u need a manuel as the engine removal procedure is too involved to explain in detail here. Why do u want to replace the engine?

A rebuild would be the least expensive way to go assuming it needs it. Many guys on here don't like the OMC which I think is a great motor if maintained. Having said that, if you make a change and go to Merc it will cost A LOT for the retrofit.

I would definitly recommend first, get a repair manual for the OMC. OMC Stern Drives 1986-98 Repair manual by Solec ISBN: 978-0-89330-056-2.

If your old one is a pre 87 then you are going to need a new intake, flywheel, coupler, possibly exhaust manifolds if your new one has vortec heads, not completely positive on the exhaust. Out drive is a piece of cake to remove, but definitely get a manual.

its a vortex the new one and i looked at the old 1 and it has 3 bolt on tghe manifold i think the vortex has 6 bolts and the intakes has 4 bolts compared to 6 bolts on the old 1 i got a manual frm the adult section and doesnt look hard to remove
