I really need help finding out some info and or a new distributor. I have an 89 four winds 180 with the omc 4.3 v6. well it was running super rough and through process of ellimination I opened the distibutor up and found many problems.
1. missing spring on mechanical advance
2. slack in remaining spring
3. mechanical advance seized
so I have got the advance un seized but without a proper curve on the advance its pretty much usless. I have spent all day on the phone calling all over houston trying to find a shop that has a distributor machine. To my shock (sarcasm) nobody knows that you can spin a distributor and set the proper curve. so basically i need a new to me distributor or if anyone knows a shop in houston that can do this or any other ideas. Im not knew to boats, I was a machinery tech in the coast guard for 10 years nor to the automotive world with 17 years racing and another 15 in restoring classics so this older technology in points isnt strange to me I am however new to the world of I/O and as Ive discovered there are to many similaraties with automotive that will fry a boat in the I/O side. like a hybrid in another word. anyway, any help I can get is very well appreciated. P.S. I got the boat for a steal so a 400 distributor isnt logical in this case. Thanks.
