OMC 4.3 Cobra

I might get a Reinell 181SR that has a 4.3 OMC Cobra drive. What should I know about this drive? I have never had anything but Mercury Outboards so I have little to no knoledge of stern drives, even less about OMC's Cobra outdrive. Is there a impeller in the lower unit? Or does it have an automotive water pump, or both? Are these reliable outdrives? I drove this model a few years ago, but it had a MerCruiser outdrive. Are they about the same outdrive or are they totally different? <br /><br />Thanks for any help.<br /><br />craig

it should have 2 an impeller in the foot and a water pump on the motor itself as far as i know all i can tell you is good luck wish i had bought an outboard my self see my question i placed in here.

OMC made these sterndrives from 86 to about 93,a pretty short run buy any standards. In that run there have been several lower shift cable upgrades as well as gear changes in the lower unit.You don't indicate the age of this unit however with the proper upgrades I've seen alot of these doing just fine.Make sure that your local tech knows their way around these drives.Not OMC's proudest product.
