I have a 1976 Stringer 800 with a Ford 351 and I got my new exhaust system (manifold, riser, end cap) and I notice the new gaskets for the riser and end cap only have one slot cut in it for the water to flow through. The manifold, riser and end cap have 3 openings for the water jackets. Should I open up the other 2 slots on both of the gaskets??

Also when I took the short hose off of the intermediate housing (starboard) the hose connector is starting to corrode. What is the best method to stop or at least slow down the corrosion before I repaint it?

Thanks

Are you talking about the big exhaust hose connector that is part of the intermediate casting? If so, I would wire brush it, wash it with a vinegar/water mixture, spray it with an etching primer and repaint it with a good durable waterproof enamel.

As to the hole in the outlet/risor gasket, there should only be the one. I think the object is to keep water from flowing too rapidly thru the manifolds. That would create too much expansion and contraction between the block and manifold. With the engine up to temperature, your manifold should be warm, not hot or cold. Water running thru all three ports would keep the manifolds ice cold.

Boomyal

This one has the 3.5" from the riser to a Bell (908716) and then from the bell there is a 2.25" from the bell to the intermediate.

I thought there might be some sort of something like maybe vinager to neturalize the corresion firt? then use the etching primer.

thanks

I just added to my post above you. re-read it.

No need to 'neutralize' it. Just scrub it off and the vinegar will just aid in making the raw aluminum more suitable for adhering to the paint.

I'm in the process of repainting my entire intermediate housing as we speak.
