omc 305 looses power and wont plane

I took my 25' appollo out last week end, and after running 3500 rmp for a hour and a half, it stuttered and lost power. I changed the fuel filter and checked plug wires, it started up ran good for five minutes and lost power again. It idles great but does not have the power to plane? I was able to crawl back to dock at 8 mph? Any ideas? and is running the 305 at 3500 RPM a bad thing?

3500 should not be an issue. Sounds like a fuel issue to me. Check the fuel pressure and see what you have. What carb is on it?

It should run at 3500 continuously with no problems at all........
