Hi All,
I have an 87 Bayline Capri w 3.0 OMC and Cobra outdrive.
My problem is that the esa kicks in when accelerating. Shifts fine into and out of forward and reverse at idle speed. Once I start to speed up the tension on the shift cable increases and causes the kill switch to engage. I watched and saw this happen. I drained the oil on the outdrive and it looks good, pulled the outdrive and nothing noticeable to be wrong. I am going to run out a get a scale to measure the shift cable tension (not suppose to be over 2.5#'s).

Hoping someone has had a similar issue and has some pointers. Otherwise I guess I replace the shift cable and hope that works. I just wonder if something could be wrong with the outdrive that is doing this.
Any help would be great!
Thanks

The outdrive usually is in gear or not?
The shift rod might have something blocking it?
It shouldn't have anything to do with the ESA.
It sounds like the cable might be sticky.
Or the shift mechanism is corroded and not allowing the shift to work right?
Drop the drive, remove the bellcrank and check for corrosion?
