Denis,
agree with .018 on the feeler gauge, but consider buying a cheap dwell meter, it's a more accurate way to gap points, some meters cost as low as $20.00, dwell spec is 30 degrees, plus or minus 2 degrees.

I have a 79 SeaRay with a OMC Stern Drive 305 GM, 200 HP, and Mallory Distibutor YL624JV.

Can you tell me the color of the wires that are going to the + and - terminals of your ignition coil? I want to see if it's the same as mine.

I have 2 wires on the + terminal and 3 wires on the - terminal. Boat isn't here so I can't give you the colors today. I don't have a manual yet.

Thanks

Thanks Denis for the wiring info.

I have the same 2 wires on + terminal, same as you.

On my - terminal I have the solid gray wire, and the solid black wire (same as you). Difference is a 3rd wire that comes from my shift interupter module (small black box) which is mounted on a brass plate attached to the top of the engine just forward of the distributor.

Do you have a shift interupter module on your boat? It's also known as a ESA module, for Electonic Shift Assist

I'll check the colour of this 3rd wire tomorrow
