It appears low RPM is a popular subject on this forum. My OMC 2.5 IL4 was taken care of about as well as I've ever seen by the previuos owner. But, I can't seem to squeeze any more than 3500-3800 RPM's out of it. Also boggs just before throttle stop. Compression is excellent and timing is on. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: OMC 2.5L low RPM

Just a thought. Has anyone ever, ever had a fuel problem fixed by replacing the fuel filter? Just curious because the repair manual points in this direction but of all the posts I've read concerning this problem, although it's been suggested to replace the fuel filter, that never fixed the problem.

I've had that happen a few times......
Usually right after I got a dose of water in the gas tank.....

BTW, Has the motor Ever ran faster than that for you ???????
If Not, I'd try dropping down in pitch on the prop....

water in gas is probably cause of most boat engine problems. replacing filter and/or dumping water out of seperator is always my first move and usualy only thing needed. bondo's question repeated.
