I have plenty of spark, gas flow, and compression. I replaced the ignition switch and did several small things. I've heard that the problem is probably the shifter plate and/or the switches on it. I was looking for some sort of diagram on how they are supposed to be positioned and so forth. I heard they have to be lined up perfect to let the boat start or this problem happens. any insight, a copy of the diagram and how to position them properly would be appreciated. thank you

so it does fire but dies when you let go of the key? Sounds like the coil is getting power from the starter relay and then goes dead when you stop cranking the starter. Jump a lead from battery + to coil + and see if it stays running, Dont leave the lead on there too long you will overheat the coil, just long enough to see if it runs.

if you could unhear that, that would be good :)

If Nick's jumper works, your resistance wire (purple/red) may have failed open.
