1989 19' Renken cuddy cabin with 1989 2.3L 4cyl OMC Cobra sterndrive. Boat has been running great, but I noticed excessive blowby going into intake. When I got the boat back to the house the carburetor bolts were a little loose on the intake gasket. I tightened the bolts, changed the oil and all seemed well(no more blowby, no more gas in oil). After about a month of use (approx 30-40 hrs run time)...same thing carb bolts loosened up and notice blowby. I have bought a new intake to carb gasket and some locktight to keep carb bolts down, but I am wondering if something else could be causing gas to mix with the oil.
any suggestions????

ps I believe it is gas and not water in the oil because of the smell, and there is no separation(I drained it and let it sit for days and it is still milky where water in oil would seperate)

I have had gas in my oil before and it never turned the oil milky. It just thinned it out and it smelled like gas.The only thing that I know that will turn the oil milky is water. Water will seperate from gas if you let it sit but I dont think water will seperate from oil once it is mixed enough to become milky.

Just my thoughts.

Yeah, I've had gas in the oil before too. It doesn't turn milky, just thins out. First guess would be the manifolds? That's how I got water in my oil. Course head/intake manifold gaskets would be the secong guess. Good luck!

dfishin1,

Make sure your crankcase vents are not clogged. There should be a tube going from the valve cover to the base of the carb.

Under the tube in the valve cover is a screen that should also be clean.
