Any input regarding the status of my prop. Is this sort of pitting normal? My gut feeling is its on its last legs but not sure.
Also the rubber bushing in the back of the prop has some cracking on it. Is that normal as well? And when i replace this prop what are my options for brand. I'm a little lost when it comes to understanding my options. on the prop there is a stamping that sais 13 1/4 x17 wondering if this is the size. I counted the splines on the hub and it has 13.
Any input is appreciated.

cheers,
Stu

That looks like severe cavitation burn. It needs to be replaced.

The prop section has a Solas Rubex 17" for $107. That includes the hub kit and all the hardware for installation. :)

13 1/4 X 17 is the prop size: 13 1/4 inch diameter by 17 pitch. 13 splines is an old OMC drive shaft pattern and cobra was made by OMC.

Before you buy a new prop, find out the reason for the pitting and fix it. Is it cavitation damage due to ventilating or running position? or is it a combination of salt water corrosion damage leading to possible cavitation. At any rate, don't ruin a new prop.

BTW: Some of the deeper pits look like a poor weld repair. Was the prop ever reconditioned?

Ok thanks 😔 what the heck causes that? Can I prevent it ? Will the new prop suffer from this as well? How long will the new prop last ? I'm not the original owner so I have no idea how long the prop has been like that.
Thanks Stu.

Hey Frank I can't answer any of the questions because i am not the original owner. One thing I know is that the boat was run in fresh water only. I was wondering myself if the prop was reconditioned - any way I will replace it and keep the old one as an emergency spare. Thanks again.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

If they did that bad a job on the repair, I wonder if the prop is even balanced correctly or the pitch is correct on each blade. If that was my prop, it would be in the trash.

I wonder if it may be a reaction to the wrong kind of paint.
And perhaps some sort of electrolysis could be going on could be within the boat
or within the marina if moored there.Looks like a number of layers of paint perhaps more than one not compatable.
