I have no spark . Coil , ignition module replaced . When power is supplied to the coil there is spark . Re: computer is there any place to obtain a schematic for the computer also what voltage should be coming from the computer to the distributor ? Grounds were also checked and appear to be ok . Before there was no spark at above 3500 RPM the engine seem to cut out momentarily .

Howdy,

Welcome Aboard!

It will be helpful if you provide the actual model number of the engine. OMC had 7 different model number engines in 1993, 3 of which were carbureted.

If you haven't already, Go to http://epc.brp.com to view models, part numbers etc. For your year, a LOT of part numbers were superseded to Volvo Penta numbers.

A boat that old will have electrical connection (ground etc) problems that it appears you may have identified. Other than that, the distributor stator, cap, rotor are of course, suspect. I am not sure you can buy a new stator assy.

I don't know about the module either. OMC# 0988106 was used on all the 5.0L engines for 1993 (and possibly other years) and was also superseded by Volvo 3854889, But I couldn't find it online any place other than expired ebay auctions and other places like Doug Russell parts where they indicated "Please Call" in the price.

I don't think you can find the schematic diagram of the actual PCB in the box. Manufacturers almost never release ECM schematics.

Mid 90's electronic IGN and EFI OMC engines are difficult to fix. A lot of people just go back to a carb and stand alone after market distributor.

Your best source of info for that model is going to be the OEM OMC service manual. IF you don't have one, and you cannot buy one from BRP, ebay has them from time to time.

btw, I also seem to remember that some EFI, and electronic ignition engine systems have a limp mode or protection mode that will limit RPM or kill the engine above a certain RPM if oil pressure is lost or the engine over heats. Another reason to get your hands on an OEM service manual for your particular engine.

Regards,

Rick
