What you need is a test light. Make sure that you have current going to the + side of the coil. If you do, check that the pigtail going to the points or the condenser wire isn't grounded. With the points open, you should be able to create a spark by touching the two contacts together. If not, chances are that it's the coil. That takes care of the primary side. I have seen rotors short out to the distributor shaft on the secondary side rather than deliver to the cap terminals.
Check that you didn't break a timing belt.
