Folks,

Purchased this as a project boat yet I have only ever worked on 2/4 stroke outboards; so this is a new sort of motor and leg within my experience level. I restore boats over a few months and then decide if I will enjoy it for the long haul. The prior owner says they think the engine needs the sterndrive likely aligned with the motor. I am wondering if anyone knows which sterndrive this exactly is and any feedback on the issues I may face?

I will be looking for a manual online to service the motor.

Any help is appreciated.

That looks like an electric shift

You wont find copyrighted material on line from reputable sources

www.outboardbooks.com is the only authorized place to get a manual

Old OMC drives like that are made up of 3 pcs. The intermediate assembly bolted to the motor, the upper unit and the lower unit

There is no alignment needed as the intermediate section is located by the dowel pins on the engine

Start looking at the stringers where the engine is mounted. The lag screws should be tight. Check the fluids in the drive. The engine looks good so try to start it. Any idea why the boot was removed? Does the tilt work? Is the steering free? How do the ball gears look?
