Looks like I am going to pick up this boat tomorrow. It is in a custom aluminum riverboat with a jet unit. OMC guys, what other powerheads will retrofit into this unit. I am told that there is a OMC 181 that will go in. Many $$$ I am also told that there is a performance package kit for these that OMC sold in the mid 90's. The motor is still in good shape, but I will eventually need more power for hunting expeditions.

A 115 Turbo Jet is an outboard powerhead on a jet unit. Most likely a V4 cross flow. I haven't heard of a performance package for them. Let us know what is in it. <br /><br />When you say "OMC 181", do you mean the 181 cubic inch 4 cylinder sterndrive motor?<br /><br />Let us know!

I believe that the 181 is that one that you mentioned. A custom riverboat builder here in Anchorage has proposed that we retrofit the boat with that setup. Silverstreak Boats....They originally built this craft in 1994 with the 115. It looks to have been a real popular powerplant for that time frame. I have seen about four manufacturers of riverboats that have that engine in the jet system about that time frame. I have been quoted about 10 large for the conversion. It includes some fuel tank reconfiguration....

That sounds about right because the pump for the Chevy isnt the same as the Turbo Jet pump. It's a whole new deal. <br /><br />Sounds like a neat deal!

Seems for that kind of coin I should drop in a small block and go whole hog....Nice thing about the crossflow is that it doesn't take up much room.

Re: OMC 115 Turbojet

Here is the response I received from my OMC dealer locally. They have a couple options.....'<br /><br />Hi Kevin,<br /><br />There are two upgrade kits available. Each one is said to add 2-4 MPH.<br /><br />One is a cylinder head and muffler upgrade, pn: 437826 costing 664.38 or<br />901.38 installed.<br />The other is a nozzle and grate upgrade pn:438393 costing 576.72 or 734.72<br />installed.<br /><br />I would do the head/muffler upgrade first which should boost you to around<br />140hp (this kit was stock on later models). Our parts dept. could order<br />either kit for you. We're making appointments for early July here in<br />service so call me if you'd like to have us install a kit.
