Yes. Many good men sacrificed greatly, even to the ultimate sacrifice to free Europe.

I wonder how many of the French, who revile us so, remember D Day?

Amen. We who enjoy freedom can never repay the sacrifices of those brave men....and let's not forget those that, just two years before on 6 June 1942, turned the tide of the war with Japan, in the seas off a small island called Midway.
Semper Fi!
Backlash

I just had my 10th annual Indianapolis 500/Day before Memorial Day party. I never had so many people pay attention to my toast to the veterans of our armed forces as I did this year. I spent 5.5 years in the Air Force and that time gave me a great appreciation for everyone that came before me, including both my grandfathers and my Dad. I fly the flag every day, and I hope everyone else does too.

Amen to all the posts on this thread.

It was a horrific price to pay for part of a job that had to be done. No matter how many times I read about or hear about those beach landings it never fails to disturb me.

Omaha

Y'know guys, it makes me wonder.

How many thousands of Yanks, Canucks and Brits died to free France of the yoke of Naziism.

How many Yanks and Aussies died to stop the Japanese short of invading Australia and New Zealand.

Yet, today, only 60 years along, the Kiwis are such enthusiasticly pro-US, Australia and Canada fans and the French can't bash us enough.

What is the difference??

I shared assignments with Aussie and Kiwi specialists at various places during the '50s, treading in harm's way. Where were the Frogs then??

Now we seek to eradicate terrorists from the earth. What are the French doing to help??

Maybe I'm off base here. If you can, please enlighten me. But it sure seems to me like they are on Bin Laden's side.

JB, I can dig the WWII sentiment towards the French, but I have to appreciate what they did for us in Desert Storm. I was the only guy that spoke any French and also the only one that was able to understand the Brits. So I became sort of a liaison. I tell you, those two groups took on some of the scariest missions in the conflict. I just don't see bashing a whole nation for the opinions and attitudes of some creeps. We've got our share of losers here as well.
