Anyone watching (watched?) the closing ceremonies?.....wow, pretty amazing.
These opening and closing ceremonies for these games and the venues they are held in are pretty spectacular. The Olympics is probably the only event in the world that you can plan out and afford this kind of live performance!
As for the Olympic games themselves...great!...loved 'em.
Like most Canadians we lived for the hockey in many respects and I loved watching the Gold medal games and agree with some of Tims comments earlier regarding the Mens team.
The medal counts...all looked good to me although its interesting the NBC media group lists the medals in different order than the other countries (BBC, Europe, Canada, etc)...by quantity and not by Gold to Silver than bronze.
It kind of fitting (being the host country), and no big surprise that Russia won the most....they certainly have the size, population and weather to do well.....too bad about the Hockey end of it tho'.
That said, I never even thought to see if Russia has a Womens hockey team?....maybe they do?
Great international event tho'....its great seeing a lot more unity and friendship between the athletes not only at the podium but right at the end of the events.
It will be interesting to watch all the wrap up news on all of the events!!...and to finally catch some of the key moments on youtube..LOL

Well I can say one thing, with all the run up and stories of attacks and politics, it really was a pretty low key games with virtually nothing bad happening...

Did not get to see too much of these games as I was away on vacation for most of it. What I did see though showed good sportsmanship from the vast majority of competitors win, lose, elimination, crash, wipe out etc.
Very few "spoiled brat" exceptions.
Sad that we have to be happy and thankful that there were no attacks on the games though.

...ditto on that. There was a lot of chat about a lot of threats, security, etc...but it didn't seem to materialize which was good. Security at this event is always pretty tight and top.
What I was surprised at was the seemingly low amount of athletes testing positive for drugs!!....except the Germans LOL.
(OR maybe they have all been using the same pharmacist that supplies the tour de france...LOL)

Re: Olympic Wrap Up

The games became less appealing after the US failed to medal in the only sport that really counted!;):lol: Will watch some of the closing ceremonies tonight, then back to the NHL and rooting for Crosby again!:D

Re: Olympic Wrap Up

I agree, all in all a great Olympics and very entertaining.

My only complaint is aimed at the media. I'd prefer more completion footage and less "background". But then I say that with all the Olympics. Maybe its just me.

+1 on this. Showing the same backstory more than once, and bringing up US skating trash from 20 years ago???

Tape delay allows the network more time to play try and build up drama. Let the athletes perform and then tell us about the winners.

Makes you wonder what the rest of the world watched for their Olympics.

OK I have to admit I watched the Kerrigan/Harding retro. Skating bores me but this was an interesting story to remember. Gilloolly and his henchmen were comical in their ineptness. IN some ways I feel bad for Harding. It seems to me that at the point of the attack, it pretty much noted the peak of her life.

Re: Olympic Wrap Up

I thought that the Canadian coverage was really good from what I saw. The live streaming of the events was great for anyone not at a TV. Picture quality and complete lack of any freezing was the best I have ever used. It ran around 30 seconds delay from the TV coverage.
