Time flies and he's lived with us a couple of years.... I called auto insurance company yesterday and he is covered until he turns 16 for no cost. Then it is $1,500 per year.... Get a job kid.

When our son reached 16, I called the insurance company to see the damage. I asked many questions and also have a great dialog with them due to my daughter's accident.

I asked what was the best approach. Our contact reviewed our vehicles and stated that adding him to our older Suburban would be the best, it only has PLPD. He is also able (covered) to drive any of the other vehicles we have, his daily driver is an Escape.

Added about $600 overall to our policy, we have four vehicles. Michigan has different insurance requirements(no fault) than many states so YRMV.

When my oldest daughter turned 16, my insurance went up about $225/month When my stepson turned 16, my insurance went up $300/ month. the joys of living in Florida with young drivers. if we lived back in Wisconsin, it would have only went up about $80/month Then again, back in Wisconsin I insured 5 vehicles and two boats for about $1500 per year

I agree with 64osby, talk to the insurance carrier. with my stepson and oldest daughter I asked them which vehicle would make the most sense to insure them on as driver. My daugter was on the durango only and my step son on his Hyundai

The girls were pretty inexpensive when we added them to the insurance. When the boy was on deck, I thought we were gonna' get belted pretty hard, but it turned out to be about $65/month. Not too bad.

LOL, congrats! What is great about having 15 year old's around is that they already know everything...

Reminds me of that old joke were dad is taking his young daughter for driving lessons and she starts to lose control of the car and screams at daddy what do i do?Dad says jump in the back you always seem to know everthing when your back there and im driving!
