I just bought a beat yami 92 waveiii (wra650)for 250$. It had starter bolts broken off in the block that I drilled out with diamond bits and an angle dremel. (in about 4 weekends, so I didnt have to pull the motor) I put a new oil pump/lines and check valves in and am not comfortable with the amount of oil going into the carb. I can dig an oil pump block off plate but doesnt the pump deliver more oil when its necessary thus changeing the mixture. This oil pump is not electronically controlled. Runs off the crank I guess. Any opinions. Thank you.

Left out that it is turning over and running. The oil injection just scares me. It looks like its just barely dripping into the carburator.

Re: Older Yami Waveiii oil injection or block off

Woo hoo, my first post! Was hoping it would be on my boat but I am just starting. Have been working on and riding skis for 3 years.

Anyway, the best thing to do is to remove the entire oil injection system.
It is the first thing I do when I get a ski. There are too many things that can go wrong. Your pump can fail or more likely, an oil injection line can pop off. If this happens, you most likely won't know it until your engine locks. Chances of this are small but it sounds like you are already having problems.

To answer your question, on some skis you pump the same amount of oil at any RPM. Most skis will vary pumping more at high RPM and less oil at lower RPM. If you are getting the reverse, you have a big problem.

My first ski was a Kawisaki STX 750. The pump was starting to fail. It was pumping more oil than it should have, smoking badly and fouling plugs.

I removed the pumped, ordered a block off kit and lived hapily ever after.

Not everyone agrees with removing the pump but most people who work on their own skis do this. It is a pain to mix oil but much worse to lose an engine over $0.25 worth of hose that popped off.:D

Most likely you are looking at a 50:1 on the oil in the premix.
