Older Yamaha 4-stroke

Aw jeez...I bet this question has been asked 1000 times, but I couldn't find it: I have an older (it's painted white, does that help?!) 9.9 4-stroke/high thrust. Where do I a) look for the serial #; b) find the year, when I find (a), and, c) find an owner's manual? Clymer's, etc., don't seem to address the 4 strokes.

Ahoy, Captain Mike.<br /><br />I, too, have a mature Yammy 4 stroke 9.9. The numbers should be on a plate attached to the mount.<br /><br />The Seloc manual on '84 to '87 1&2 cyl. Yammys covers the 9.9 4 stroke.<br /><br />Good luck.
