older merc tach not working and not charging

Its a 1966 inline 6 merc 950ss, I am thinking I should replace the rectifier, do you know if its a regulator/rectifier or just a rectifier? I understand from reading old posts that if its just a rectifier i can get a cheap replacement at radio shack, if otherwise what are my options?<br />Thanks

its only $35 for a merc. rectifier!<br />new ones are shaped lil diff. so they'll try to<br />sell you a mtg.bracket too for $15 (make one)<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.

Thanks MellowYellow<br />I will take your advice, no monkey business on this big old merc, its 37 years old and has never been rebuilt, I think I will be able to fabricate up a little mounting braket as you suggest. <br />Cheers
