this motor runs pretty well but seems to have a weird problem, one day fishing i thought i fouled a plug. but just to make sure i checked for spark by grounding out the plug to the engine block, the #2 plug was still in and when i pulled the rope the motor actually fire and ran, i had to hit the kill button, after further inspection... i found that the top or #2 plug had a hotter spark than the #1.
with both plugs in and the motor running pulling the #2 plug wire causes the motor to die...any thoughts...

I think that motor has lost spark ignition It won`t run on one plug without the other sparking.........which is what happened when you pulled a plug but then earthed it while in holder. However when you pull plug cap out when running then engine will die. This is my understanding of it.

If one spark is stronger than the other check for corrosion at plug cap or renew a plug cap. Easy checked with a multi meter. Change the plugs around to see if it alters (duff plug).Clean HT leads with warm soapy water then dry. Lastly could be coil or pulser coil.

May depend on hull type. Providing it`s a planing type then yes it should plane with a light boat.

Spark plug wires. The only dumb question is the one not asked.

I dout a 8 HP will plane a 14 foot boat even with only one person in it. My 15 Hp Johnson will plane my 14 Klamath with one or two light people but not with 2 and fishing gear.

You pulled no 2 plug and motor died.......Get it running on two cylinders again.......now pull no 1 and it will die also...did you try it?
