Every once in awhile, someone responds to an old thread, most likely not realizing that its old. Inevitably, one of the Mods decides to lock it. Fair enough in some cases, but I think we could live without the snide remarks.

Reviving an old thread is not the end of the world. The Pope will not keel over and the sun will not explode, ending all life in our solar system.

And, yes, I'm annoyed at a comment that I just read.

Mods are human also, sometimes they have to vent, when members do not pay attention.

Re: Old Threads

I think (though I am just getting caffeine in me, so maybe I am not) that some of these are the result of actually using the search function, it's just that the thread may no longer be relevant. While I have so far been savvy enough not to raise the dead yet, I often search and read many old ghosts when I have a question about something, especially mechanical or restore related.

Everyone is human that posts on the boards (we think), mods included. Modding a board with this much traffic, not to mention diverse ages and overall knowledge, is a job in itself. Not smooching up here but I know from experience that keeping the reigns on things can be challenging.

Having said that, an old thread here or there doesn't bother me, unless it is clearly malicious spamming.

Re: Old Threads

If a new entry to an old thread is relevant it is not locked. But that is usually not the case. Usually the thread is hijacked with a vaguely related question or reply. Then it gets locked. Sometimes the mod is annoyed enough to make a comment.

Neither the lock nor the comment is inevitable, but one thing is common. Someone, even someone who has been here for years and made many posts, will break this rule:

If you have comments, questions, suggestions or complaints about the moderation or management of the board, contact iboats management or moderators privately. Do not post your comments in the fora.
