I am not sure why this is even an issue or how you could be "waste deep" unless you mean your Subscription list.
If you actually mean "how do I remove threads from my Subscribed list?" go to the task bar at the top of the screen and select "Quick Links"...."Subscribed Threads".
On the right hand side of window, check the box of any thread that you want to remove. When you have made all selections, go to bottom of screen, select the "Selected thread" option with the down-scope arrow, and choose "delete subscription" from the options.
