Will my 1957 10 HP Johnson work with the new plastic gas tanks or do I have to use this old metal tank?

If the old metal tank has two lines going to it yes......Those motors have one line that sends air pressure to the tank, which forces the gas mixture back to the motor. Make sure that the seals are good on the tank you're using, otherwise the motor won't run. If your old tank is rusted out, you can usually find used ones at a marina for under fourty bucks.

Could change it over to a fuel pump set-up...

You can use late model tanks if you plug the pressure line at the pump.

When the dual line pressure tank works correctly it is great. You do not have to pump the bulb everyday it keeps pressure in the tank. Good Luck,

you shouldn't have pump the bulb everyday, well if you trailer it with the engine fully tilted up every day you might. Normally, once the system is primed you shouldn't have to touch the bulb. The bad thing about the pressurized system was if any connector or fitting leaked or the carb flooded because of a leaky float needle or carb angle the contents of the gas tank ended up in the lake or worse in the bilge increasing the risk of fire or explosion.

Change it over to a single line, pressure tanks just aren't worth it.It takes me 15 hours to rebuild one properly, and I mean everything, and yet I would still prefer a fuel pump setup.Do your homework on this site, change it over, this puppy wants to run!
