Look for trouble at this one, old Merc.s did not have stainless steel drive shafts.
Maybe the drive shaft has rusted in the crank shaft splines.
If a saltwater engine most bolts and nuts are corroded.
BUT check it out first and if a no saltwater engine it is rebuildable.
Old Merc.s are really nice engines.
Good luck

I've a 1960 (300), 1965 (650) and 1975 (850). All have been good engines. The 300 and 650 have a magnito, which points are hard to find and expensive. The 850 has a distributor and switch box. Again expensive ignition parts if you can find them. Carburator parts (floats, gaskets, needle n seats) are available. Fuel pump parts also available.

Rebuilt a mid 60's 4 cylinder 65 HP on behalf of a dealer last winter.----Parts are not that hard to find.----A lot depends on your location.
