Old Merc 80hp impeller chewed up on one side.

Today I pulled the l/u on my '62 Merc 800. There was sand deposited in several places in the l/u. I noticed that the old impeller was chewed up on one side so bad that the fins were missing. Is this normal? If not what would cause this?

Howdy oldboatsal,<br />Yep, that's pretty normal for a worn-out impeller. While you've got it torn down, ya might try and wash out all those missing pieces of old impeller. If they get into a small water passage, they can be a pain in tha a**.<br /><br />g'luck & c/6<br /><br />Hooty
