Old merc 500s

I have 2 merc 500s. One of them is red and the other is blue. The Red serial # is 2628231 and the blue is 3820213. The red one has a good powerhead but the gearcase is trash. I have been looking for one and cant find one anywhere. The blue one is the powerhead is ok but all the wiring is junk. The gearcase is good and i was wondering if the blue gearcase will fit on the red engine? Thanks

If the serial #'s on your gearcases are the same and they are the same length I dont see why not and if you are looking for another gearcase look on ebay

Hi FM,<br /> The only area you may get into a mix-up on is the shift rod. It actuates the reverse-lockout and I think they changed the mechanism over those years. Your motors are: 1969 and 1974. The props may not interchange, either, as I think they went to the heavier propshaft in 1970...<br />- Scott
