You have to remove the powerhead in order to disconnect the shift rod. After that, it's easy..just the 4 bolts holding the lower unit on. When you reinstall the powerhead you will need a new gasket and please don't ignore the seal assembly at the top of the drive shaft. Always replace the 303355 gasket and 303347 o-ring on that seal assy. Ignore it and water gets into the crankcase and it's good-by motor when it throws a rod. They are too good a motor to waste.
