I am buying a boat from a repo yard that I know it arrived on its own a year ago, I do not know how old the gas is, but it smells very bad, so bad, when they tried to start it both fuel pumps were clogged. They relaced them and both engines started and seemed to run good. The mechanic at the yard said this gas is so bad I can't believe the engines run. He also told me just to add some new gas to the old and burn it quickly and then fill the boat up. The boat has twin 454 Crusaders fuel injected with 300hrs. Besides the fuel pumps is there anything else on the motors I should be concerned about? Is the mechanic right? What is the correct thing to do?

Re: Old gas

I would be very concerned about the complete fuel system if the old gas plugged up the fuel filter. You have injectors, regualtors etc that can get plugged up.
DO NOT run the old gas if it's as bad as you describe, get it out of the boat and disposed of it.
