I have a 1968 Johnson 5 hp that runs for a minute or two and dies. Could it be that the gas i have is over 6 months old, or spark plugs? any advice?

Thanks

Re: Old gas

It could be any of those, but try keeping steady gentle pressure on the primer bulb to see if you can keep it running.

Re: Old gas

You mean put gentle pressure as soon as it starts running?. If this fixes the problem, does that mean, i need to buy a new fuel line with primer bulb. Sorry for being naive to all this.

Re: Old gas

It is running out of gas, Carlos. Things to check:

Is the vent open on the gas tank?

Are there air leaks in the fuel line connectors?

If you pump the primer bulb when it starts to die, does that keep it running?

Is the fuel pump pumping fuel? Take the line from the pump to the carburetor loose and stick it in a bottle. Turn the engine over. Does fuel squirt in the bottle?
