Old Gas - How to dispose of ????

The 2001 Proline 19ft CC Sport we purchased from my wifes grandfather had been sitting up for around 2 yrs with no use. The tank was full with 50 gallons. Didn't run very well so I pumped out 35 gallons and filled up with high test gas. Well, all worked out and the engine works great. Only problem is I have 35 gallons of old gas sitting in 7 new 5 gallon containers. I want my containers back and have no idea what to do with the gas. Have called all around and there is no public service in my area to help with disposal.

Any ideas on what to do with the gas????

did you check with a gas station? sometimes they will take it.

or you can add a little bit to your car or truck before you fill up. so when you are at 1/4 tank throw a few gallons in and then top it off with fresh fuel. I got rid of 8 gallons last summer doing that.

just my $.02

With a street value of around $300 it almost seems a sin to waste it.

Got any road trips in mind?

Go to a car rental place and rent THEIR car and fill it up with YOUR gas. Then before returning the car fill it up again with YOUR gas for a credit against your rental cost.

You will probably notice the greatest difference in rough idling while the car is still. Although driving at highway speed may compromise performance a little bit, I don't think it will be a huge difference.

Just top off your car tank with it when the tank is 3/4 full. Won't hurt a thing. You'd be misguided to waste it.

What PAkev says is a bit sneaky. I wouldn't do it - why pass a problem onto someone else?

Best advise is to top up your car, or lawnmower or whatever with a little of the gas until you've used it up. That way, you lose nothing and get better mileage.

How about those fuel additives that claim to renew old gas? I don't mean to bring previous tensions back to life, so please don't start another fist-fight thread on the topic of fuel additives. However, maybe this could be an opportunity for a real-life test?

Use it up in your lawnmower, weed wacker snowblower etc.
Adding to your car before fill-up also quite reasonable.
Too bad u live so far from me. I'd happily relieve you of the problem;=)

Find an old-timey hot rod garage - they'll use it for parts cleaner :D

Re: Old Gas - How to dispose of ????

you said it was in new containers so there is probably no crap in it. just dump a jug in your car every so often with half a tank of good.
stevens mentioned additives but they usually just keep gas from getting bad not reversing the process. if there is a product let us know.

With the cost of gas today, I'm sure you wouldn't have trouble finding someone to take it away for you. I would be mixing it with new gas into everything I own. Truck,car,boat... Start with a weak mix 1 gallon old to 10 new see if you can tell the difference. I doubt the gas is really bad, having some water in it probably caused your issues.

The oil companies say to dilute old gas with new gas and use it.
