Old Evinrude Year ?

A friend of mine has an old Evinrude Ser# 3012-34545X the X is stamped. The decals on the side are worn but it looks like it says Light Twin. It's a small motor with the gas tank built into the top of the motor. We need to know the year and H.P. It was his grandfathers and he wants to try and fix it up. Thanks for any help.

Hello again, rodge.<br />Evinrude 3012<br />Year: 1952-1954 (same engine)<br />HP: 3<br />WOT RPM: 4000<br />Weight: 5.27 cu.in. = 86.5 ccm<br />Cylinders: 2<br />Weight: 32 lbs. = 14.5 Kg<br />Gear Ratio: 12:20<br />Fuel oil ratio: 24:1 87 octane gas to TC-W3 outboard oil (ignore suggestions about sae 30w)<br />Spark plugs: Champion J6C gapped at .030"<br />Lower unit oil: SAE 90w outboard gearcase oil.<br /><br /> '52<br />'54<br />From the OLD OMC SITE <br /><br />Those were the first models of a great line of engines - the Johnny/Rude 3 or 4hp engines. They were still building essentialy the same engine in the early eighties, when they finally redesigned. They were hugely sucessful. And speaking from experience, the weedless lower unit design works quite well! Parts are available everywhere. If it's got half-decent compression, it's worth fixing up.<br /><br />3hp tuneup article.
