I have "inherited" an old Evinrude 35 hp along with what I believe to be a Texas Maid Osprey 14th. Both are in need of "fix'en". To start with is this combination worth fixing up. The Model & Serial of the motor is 35514 and Serial # is 22832. What can anyone tell me about this motor (year, reputation etc.)

Re: Old Evinrude 35

That's a 1958 Evinrude from the Golden Age of Outboards. At least that's my opinion. :) <br />In that year, the 35hp had just been knocked off as the top of the line engine for the 50hp V4. In '57 you couldn't buy a larger engine than the 35hp from Johnson or Evinrude.<br />'58 was the year that engine got it's thermostat and new cooling system as well. So your looking at the heights of outboard technology in 1958.<br />Most common parts are still in production and easy to get. Uncommon parts can still be found with a little hunting.<br />If the Evinrude has good compression and has all it's parts, and your idea of fun is wrenching a 50 year old outboard, then it's worth fixing up. Otherwise, get yourself a combo that runs right now.<br /><br />The Old OMC Site

I have a 58 35hp and a 58 50hp, both run well and have never let me down! I use the 35 most, better fuel mileage.
