If a new comer or sleepy poster replys to an ancient thread, does the do not reply banner disappear?

Re: Old/dead posts

Because the newcomer, sleepy, inattentive or uncaring poster awakens the thread. The red banner is only displayed on threads with no activity for 90 days. Once a post is made, it is no longer considered inactive and the 90 clock starts anew.

Ayuh,... That's what happens til 1 of Us Moderators finds it,....

What I do, when possible, is move the offendin' post to it's Own New Thread,....
Just like the red banner asks you to do,...
Then the red banner reappears, as the old thread returns to the depths of the archives,..
The objective is completed, but only due to effort by the Mod Squad,...

Other times, especially when the new post is irrelevant, or off topic,...
It's Deleted, 'n the Op is pm'ed 'bout it,...
Then of course, the banner reappears, 'n the thread goes back to it's place in the archives,...

'n again, The objective is completed, but only due to effort by the Mod Squad,...

Hmmmmmmm... And that usually happens AFTER I post that the new poster needs to start his own thread.... Making me look like a prize goose....... :D

Re: Old/dead posts

Hey Iboats crew members,

First of all, thanks for all you do to help make this the premier boating site that it is and kudos to starting a forum section for just this kind of thing...it should help Iboats.com become an even better place to hang out at...

Secondly, and on topic...
A few months ago, I sent an email to Iboats Customer Service and asked about just this thing...
The BIG RED BANNER...
As was mentioned in the earlier posts, these archived threads that get dragged back into life for whatever reason, sleepy, inconsiderate, ill informed, etc...
I believe, and I mentioned this in my communication with the admin. that this problem could easily be solved by moving the BIG RED BANNER to the top of the page instead of the bottom...or even right across the middle...
It just makes sense...most of us that read English usually start at the top of a page and read down from there...
I have caught myself reading some of the old threads and almost getting ready to reply, but then I see it...

Anyhow, that's my 2?

Have Fun and Keep it between the Marker Buoys!:D

Re: Old/dead posts

I thought the background should be red with Danger Will Robinson superimposed. LOL

I don't know the software, but I wonder if the poster could be warned that they are about to post to an inactive thread. Similar to the "Are you sure you want to leave" after starting a reply to a post without submitting.

Re: Old/dead posts

My suggestion was that once a thread reaches the limit (90 days in this case) the only people able to reply (controlled by the software) would be the OP and mods/admins... Still waiting for a reply on that...

Chris...

Chris does have a good idea, but, it's next to impossible to miss the banner. Some people just like to ignore it, "I know this is an old thread, but......." Chris's idea would stop the people who choose to ignore the warning....

Re: Old/dead posts

I still like "Danger Will Robinson" - But Chris has a better idea! :)

A related question - For those who use a smart phone to access the forums, does the red banner show? I thought a while back someone said it didn't. But it could have been what Musky said where they choose to ignore the warning and post anyway.

EDIT - Fixed the speeling of Mushy.

Edit Edit - Sure, you really spelled it like you were thinking...... Now how about fixing the spelling of speeling........

Funny. We have debated this a lot in our secret lair, and I think we found that an automatic OP only deal was bad for some reason. I'll see if I can find our reasoning.

Did you find where we discussed it? There was a lot of discussion over a year ago, maybe two. I got bored and stopped looking
