I don't think thats right Specks. If you just keep pumping grease in it you can go so far that you will push the rear seal out. That being so it would seem that the rear bearing does get some grease.

Shawn,

It's even better if you can jack up and spin the wheels while you're pumping the grease in. This way you'll also know if you have a real bad one.

I'd grease it up good and go since it's only 20 miles and you can take your time. Stop after a few miles and make sure they're not overheating. I think I'd be more concerned about the tires not being dry-rotted. Have a spare on hand AND a way to change the trailer tire.

Re: old bearing buddies

After reading Specks response, it got me wondering about whether or not the inner bearing gets lubed or not so I emailed customer service at Bearing Buddy. It sounds like as long as you initially have your bearings packed, they will stay ok. Here is their response:

Thank you for your inquiry into Bearing Buddy, inc. products. As long as your bearings are initially packed and filled before installing the Bearing Buddies, the inner bearings will also remain greased. When the Bearing Buddy is first installed, the grease is then applied using a hand grease applicator. Because of the space involved, air pockets are likely to form, but are released as you drive. For this reason, we recommend that you check the grease level and add grease as needed shortly after installing the Bearing Buddy. Grease will go through the zerc fitting to fill up the cavity of both the inner & outer bearings. As long as the hub is full of grease, there is no worry about the inner bearings not having grease. I hope this addressed your concern satisfactorily.

Thank you,
Julie
Customer Service
