I have an old 72 Bass Bomber Raider. It is a good fishing boat and as comfortable as an old pair of shoes. It is however in bad need of a new prop. I found a helpful website, but I need some information. I hope someone can help. The old Bomber is a 17 Ft.with an 850 Merc: approximate weight? How do I measure pitch on the beat up bronze prop? Does anyone have any idea what prop I need? The old mercury is strong, but without power trim, I'm half way to the fishing hole before it planes off with 2 fishermen aboard. I just started some long-neglected repairs using an old shop manual, when I lucked onto this website. Already have solved 2 major problems by reading this forum. Thank you & keep up the good work!

Re: Old Bass Bomber

Hey John, thanks for the quick reply. I just walked out to the boat, and I found what looks like 23p a3 stamped on it. as near as I recall the boat runs 35-38 mph. at about 5200 RPM. The prop is pretty rough. Sorry about the slow response, I never did learn to type.- G.

Grizzly, a 23pitch sounds way too high iwould send it to the prop shop and have it identified for pitch. rpms aren't as bad as i thought they would be ,but try to get a good , solid 5500 rpm out of her with your normal load. also a new prop with full blades will bring rpm down {of same pitch}

Thanks John, I'll take the Bomber out on the water as soon as I can and recheck those RPMs, then take it to the prop shop and see what they say. -G.
