old aircooled motor

a friend brought this over.model#571-35.magneto says:eisemann magneto corporation.it has a firestone "pulonium" sparkplug that is colored purple with #f50lf on it.no recoil starter,aircooled,one cylinder.it has no gears.always in forward gear.it appears to have a little handle on it that moves from left to right with the words slow,start,and fast.this lever appears to move an ignition plate of some sort.it also has a tillotson carb with a little button and spring that seems to act like a primer.any info will be greatly appreciated.

You could be describing any number of old outboards. But the 571 could identify it as made by West Bend for Sears & sold under their name of Elgin. They had a 1.25HP air cooled engine that fits your description. Vintage would be 1946-1954?

571.35 is listed as a 41 1hp. Waterwitch built<br /> for Sears by Kissel a former auto maker.
