Nope not a honeysuckle (I know those but who know's it might be a variety of one??) and the owner does not know. It was planted by my wife's late grandfather......no one in the family knows :(

Hmmm,... maybe take a clipping to a nursery and see what they say ? I bet a flowering bud will help them identify it...also bring a leaf or two from it...

That was first thought when I saw the flowers, then I saw it was a bush. I didn't know there was a bush variety until I Googled it on a whim.

That looks a lot like what we in the north call a magnolia bush.

If Stachi's idea about the nursery doesn't work, Email the pics to the VT School of Agriculture - They should know. Another thought is contacting your County Extension Agent if you have one - they help farmers/residents with all manner of things.

Forgot to say It looks like a Crepe Myrtle to me

Ok Bob....I'm just the conduit here for my wife who is 'somewhat' up on this field of expertise.
She thinks it might be a very nice mature example of a 'weigela' shrub (not varigated)
Check it out and see if this might be close?
All Good

My Wife says Mountain Laurel, same-same as the ones they have in North Carolina. I say I've never seen anything like it in New Mexico.

Your wife is right on the money. Give that lady a big hug and pat on the back!!

I emailed a Horticulture expert from the University of Vermont and I was told it was a Weigela :D and it is a real big one too!

Yes, Weigela.

We have a pink one out front that is 10-12' high and 15-18' in diameter. Blooms early May down here.

I have a love hate relationship with it. It's pretty, but it needs cut way back every year right after it blossoms or it over runs the place.

Wow....I'm glad it worked out Bob. She sells them at her (Garden) store and was thinking of getting us one...which sounds like more work for me on the hole digging and maintenance end...hmm.
Regardless, thats a really nice example you have there!!
