Ayuh,.......... Should be Fine............

The only oddballs I know of are some of the Volvos use Engine Oil,.....
Instead of a Hy-poid Gear Oil............

The owner's manual calls for OMC ultra-HPF but I didn't see any of that at the store...

The Hi Vis and Ultra HPF stuff is still sold, look for an Evinrude/Johnson dealer because they are used in outboards.
You can use the Merc hi performance stuff in Cobras with the dog clutch (86-93), I've been using it on the recommendation of my mechanic and it's been fine. The 94 may be a joint venture (OMC+VOLVO) with the cone clutch so they are different, I'd use whatever Volvo specs if that's the one you have. They have a hump on the top of the drive instead of being flat across like the pure OMC model Cobras.

Does anybody know the weight of the Mercruiser Hi-performance + oil?

Also, I do have the SX case with the hump on top.

Volvo uses a GL-5 Synthetic gear lube in the SX.
The Merc Hi-Performance meets that criteria and is the same weight as the Volvo gear lube.
You don't have the "Hump" mentioned above, that was on the older King Cobra's (Before Volvo/Omc joint venture) and was used on the 460 Ford engines.
The SX and DP-S drives were OMC style case and housings, with all Volvo style gears inside.

Don, thanks for the confirmation.

I'm sorry, I thought the "hump" was the raised area that houses the F-N-R gears. My case does have that "hump."
