OK to cover a wet boat???

Just last week I picked up a 2001 Larson 190 sei. It's in beautiful shape inside and out. A few days ago I was towing it home when it started raining hard. I pulled the plug and left it for the night since I didn't want to cover a wet boat. I figured it would be better to leave the cover off so when it did stop raining, it could dry out.

What's your take on this?

I would have also left it off. Some covers claim to be breathable but it will still dry quicker with it off.

Yep, leave it off until it dries. Otherwise, you'll get mildew on the seats and in the carpet.

Depends on the cover. I'd have no issues putting on a Sunbrella or other really breathable fabric (say if I was leaving at the end of the weekend and really wanted to cover it) and do that all the time.

If all I had was a heavy canvas tarp or similar, I'd rather leave it uncovered. I covered a boat many years ago with just this kind of material after trailering through a downpour for several hours. It was not a pretty sight (or smell) a week later when I uncovered it again...

Ya, I let mine dry out too. I got caught on sat and had to open up the bimini early sun and let everything dry out.

I bring the canvas down my basement and spread it out over a few chairs to dry.

If it rains again while you are drying it out. Water won't hurt it after all it is a boat. But mildew will. You will just have to go a few more days until it's dry. I have carpet along the sides in various areas like the bow and lockers of the boat, so it takes a few days to dry sometimes.

But you learn fast when you cover it wet and it stinks to high hell the next few times out.

Aren't these the liitle parts of boating that makes it so exciting:D

As we speak I still have much of my equipment strewn all over my basement. And best of all they are predicting thunder storms again for this coming week end:( But if I listened to the weather forecaster, I'd lose 1/2 my season.

Yeah, I should clarify that there's no carpet on the Scout. I didn't want a scrap of it this time 'round after dealing with a SeaRay for ten years that was carpeted out the wazoo. The boat lived in-water all season and never dried out properly from May til November.

Goin' totally naked this time baby!:p (Although I will admit that the nonskid is a bit hard on the tootsies after a while without my Crocs, and even off-white, there's a whol lotta opportunity for glare bouncing up at ya.)

Yeah that glare seems to be the worst of it, glad I got the Bimini with mine! I leave mine open if it's wet as well, although it's stored in the garage, I just open the garage window to let fresh air in. I just finished draining the cooling system again....supposed to freeze again tonight..this weather has been awful the last few days...haven't caught a single fish yet!

Ya, I did the same. No carpet on the floors and I always wear the Crocs or the grain on the floor feels like sandpaper after awhile on the bottom of my feetsies :d

The side carpets are nylon anyway and if the sun is out they dry pretty quick!

Thanks guys. I just hate leaving it uncovered in the rain, but I guess it's better than covering wet.

What do you guys use to clean the interior? Anything special or just a damp cloth? I'm going to spend most of the day rubbing on it. (the boat)

I cover it rain or not until it stops raining. Then I flip up the back half of the cover and let her dry. The thing tha always bugs me it trailering it with the fuel vent covered by the cover and it stinks when I get where I'm going. It usually airs out by the time we are prepped for launch.

So it sounds like it got wet while towing it, and you can't cover it when towing cuz the wind will tear it off.

So it is already as wet as it can get, how much will more rain hurt?
just let it dry when it stops raining.
