ok I am about to order a new tohatsu but which one

Going to get a kicker/trolling/backup outboard on my 21 foot cudy cabin boat. I have neared it down between to different, Tohatsu outboards either 9.8 or 8 hp electric stat (for battery charging capability,) and or 20 or 25 inch shaft. Saving 250 dollars on an 8- is 1.8 hp really worth 250$. plus the 8 only comes in 20 inch shaft. Not to sure if the 25 would help push the boat getting prop deeper in the water and tiller handle higher on the boat......

The motors are identical except for the carb. MSRP on the 9.8 carb is $188. If your dealer will not price the 9.8 at $188 over the 8, get the 8, If you then want more power, buy the 9.8 carb, and sell the 8 carb on flea bay.

The tiller height on S-M-XL OB's once sits on transom are same, the difference is leg size going deeper on water.
